Although steeped in natural beauty and a long history, Kakuda City is also home to two of Japan’s leading space development facilities: the National Aerospace Laboratory of Science and Technology and the Kakuda Propulsion Center (a branch of the National Space Development Agency).

　Centrally located in the city is Daiyama Park, which features an observation tower (Space Tower), a space science hall (Cosmo House), and a true-to-size model of an H-II Rocket that stands forty-nine meters high. Each of these is designed to arouse the interest of children and to deepen their understanding of space exploration.

　Most visitors to the city first arrive at Kakuda Station on the Abukuma Express Line. And what a welcome they receive! They find themselves in a mock-up space station combined with a community plaza (Oak Plaza).

　Throughout Kakuda’s four magnificent seasons, the friendly locals give that extra touch of warmth that makes the sightseer’s visit especially memorable.
